US Open tee times: Rory McIlroy grouped with Ryder Cup teammates Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Åberg at Shinnecock Hills

Rory McIlroy has been grouped alongside Ryder Cup teammates Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Åberg for the first two rounds of the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.

McIlroy has been given an early-late draw over the first two days as he chases a second major victory of the season, two months on from becoming a back-to-back winner of The Masters and 15 years on from his breakthrough victory in this event.

The six-time major champion will be out on Thursday morning alongside two other members of Europe's victorious Ryder Cup team, with Åberg and Fleetwood - a runner-up during the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills - completing that marquee threeball at 7.52am local time (12.52pm BST).

Scottie Scheffler is also out early as he has his first attempt at completing the career Grand Slam, as McIlroy did last year at The Masters, with the world No 1 the pre-tournament favourite to claim a fifth major victory in as many seasons.

The 29-year-old tees off at 8.15am (1.15pm BST) alongside amateur Mason Howell and defending champion JJ Spaun, who could become the first player since Brooks Koepka to win back-to-back US Open titles.

Koepka is in an all-American threeball with Chris Gotterup and Players champion Cameron Young, while two-time US Open winner Bryson DeChambeau is on the opposite side of the draw as he looks to avoid a third consecutive missed cut in majors.

DeChambeau begins his tournament at 1.25pm (6.25pm BST) with Viktor Hovland and 2022 champion Matt Fitzpatrick, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour this season and runner-up to Bud Cauley at last week's RBC Canadian Open.

Former US Open champions Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm have all been grouped together for the first two rounds, while another notable threeball on the late-early half of the draw sees Xander Schauffele partner Justin Thomas and Hideki Matsuyama.
